Naples Art Institute Presents New Ways of Seeing: American Modernism from a Private Collection

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAPLES, FL — Naples Art Institute is proud to present New Ways of Seeing: American Modernism from a Private Collection, a major exhibition exploring the transformation of American art during a defining period of cultural and creative change. The exhibition will be on view from April 18 through July 12 at Naples Art Institute.

Featuring works created between 1915 and 1965, New Ways of Seeing traces the evolution of American modernism from early experimentation to the rise of abstraction and the emergence of a distinctly American artistic voice. Drawn from an exceptional private collection that has never before been publicly exhibited, the exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to encounter significant works that helped shape the course of 20th century American art.

The exhibition examines a pivotal period in American history, when artists responded to rapid industrialization, urban growth, social change, and shifting cultural identities through bold new approaches to form, color, and subject matter. Moving beyond European influence, American artists developed innovative visual languages that reflected the complexity and energy of modern life.

“This exhibition highlights a remarkable moment of artistic transformation,” said Frank Verpoorten. “These works reveal how American artists redefined the possibilities of painting and abstraction while shaping a uniquely American perspective in modern art.”

New Ways of Seeing features works spanning several influential movements and styles, offering insight into the changing artistic landscape of the early and mid-20th century. Together, the exhibition reveals the breadth of experimentation and innovation that defined American modernism and continues to influence artists today.

The exhibition is organized by Naples Art Institute and generously supported by Rose-Marie & Eijk Van Otterloo, Marnette & Paul Perry, and Cindy & Richard Strup.

Admission to New Ways of Seeing: American Modernism from a Private Collection is free for Naples Art Institute members and $15 for non-members. Reciprocal membership programs through NARM and ROAM are accepted.
