The Naples Art Association Adult Student Exhibition 2012 highlights current work by the talented students who attended classes at The von Liebig Art Center during the 2010-2011 class sessions. Two and three-dimension artwork in variety of media and styles will be displayed on the art center’s first and second levels in the Millicent & Charles Marshall, Elizabeth & Alan Harris, John H. & Lucile Harris Foundation and Minnesota Lobby Galleries.

Exhibition Juror: Norman Rocklin. Awards generously sponsored by Norman Rocklin, Koenig Art Emporium, Artisan Framers and Blick Art Materials.

Juror's Statement

Having served on the Accession Committee of the Baltimore Museum of Art for a number of years, I have reviewed and considered hundreds of objects. I think my experience with collections has given me the qualifications I needed to judge this exhibition of work by adult students from The von Liebig Art Center.

After examining the objects submitted for the exhibition, I found that most were by competent and serious artists. After narrowing the works to be included in the exhibition, my next task was to award five prizes. When the final phase of the selection process for the awards began, I found it to be very personal and proceeded to ask myself, “Which works do I find exceptional? Which would l like to add to my own art collection?”

Some diversity relative to medium, subject matter, style and creativity was desired. I designated an award to a nearly abstract painting on canvas by Pippi Johnson, a nearly realist work on canvas by Caroline Frémont, a realistic still life on canvas by Linda Sutton, an abstract mixed media by Jill Segal and an acrylic on paper by Jacqueline Chizever.

It was a joy to serve!

About the Juror: Norman Rocklin

Norman Rocklin strongly believes all people should donate their time and resources to support non-profit organizations. During the past 43 years he has served as museum trustee; past president and member of the museum’s Print, Drawing and Photography Society; past president and member of the museum’s Modern and Contemporary Arts Committee; and is currently a member of the museums Art Accessions Committee. In addition to his volunteer work in Baltimore, Rocklin serves on the City of Naples Public Art Advisory Committee. He has been on the committee since it began in 2001 and helped the City Council enact the Dollar for Art Program which provides outdoor public art in Naples. Rocklin received both a Juris Doctor (Graduate Degree in Law) and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Maryland. He has been collecting modern and contemporary art since the late 1960s and is intrigued by the way today’s artists are influencing others.
