The Naples Art Association at The von Liebig Art Center in Naples, FL, announces its schedule of classes, exhibitions, festivals and special events for its 2012-2013 season. It hosts a variety of curated and juried exhibitions featuring local, national and international artists, and offers a wide range of classes and workshops for adults and children of all skill levels. Fundraisers such as festivals and special events provide additional opportunities to get involved and support visual art.
The art center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. During season, beginning Oct. 20, the center is also open on Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the galleries is free, however, donations are accepted to help offset programming costs. The art center is located at 585 Park Street in Naples, FL. The public may call 239-262-6517 or visit naplesart.org for more information and to purchase admission tickets, classes and memberships.
CHRONOLOGICAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Through Nov. 12:
Fire and Water: Nature in Watercolor and Hand-blown Glass - The exhibition features original watercolor paintings by artists Rod Busch, Barbara Groenteman and Marjorie Renfroe, who all maintain art studios in Naples, and art glass by Beverly Albrets. Artwork on temporary display at Physicians Regional Healthcare System supports the facilities healing environment and is displayed for the enjoyment of patients, visitors and healthcare staff. As part of a supportive partnership between Physicians Regional Healthcare System and the Naples Art Association at The von Liebig Art Center, three exhibitions are installed annually on the Pine Ridge Road campus. Fire and Water is installed on the second floor of the atrium lobby. Additional artwork is located on the ground floor in the coffee shop, the Clinic and in the lobby near admissions.
Through Nov. 24:
Photography and Printmaking from the Collection - From Jack Megela’s trek through the Florida Everglades to Selma Bortner’s personal life journey to Jim Rosenquist’s musings on technology and mysticism in the future this exhibition highlights the Naples Art Association’s collection of photography and prints. The full collection of artwork includes works in all media created after 1950 by artists who have a connection to Florida. The von Liebig Art Center. Free admission.

ARTScool 2012 Student Exhibition - An exhibition featuring the work of young artists ages 5 to 14 who participated in the Naples Art Association’s 2012 ARTScool program. On display at Naples City Hall at 735 8th Street South in Naples. Free admission.

Naples Art Association Faculty Biennial 2012 - During each even numbered year the Naples Art Association highlights the work of its talented faculty instructors. NAA Instructors have a wealth of experience, knowledge and abilities in the visual arts and in educating people of all ages and skill levels. Classes and workshops are held at The von Liebig Art Center and at off-site locations. The von Liebig Art Center Faculty Biennial 2012 presents work in ceramics, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Wine and Dezine – a new evening workshop. Instructor Anne Chaddock demonstrates each step and all materials are provided in this fun, creative night out. Come with friends and leave with a masterpiece in just three hours. This workshop is also offered on Dec. 6, Jan. 17, Jan. 31, Feb. 21, Mar. 7, Apr. 4 and May 9.

National Art Encounter 2012-13 - This national juried exhibition features recent work in all media by artists from across the U.S. Three jurors will select artwork for the exhibition and designate $2,500 in awards. Jurors are Margaret Miller, Director of the Institute for Research in Art, University of South Florida, Tampa; Corrina Peipon, Assistant Curator, Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Culture Center in Los Angeles and Dulce Román, Curatorial Chair and Curator of Modern Art, Samuel P. Feb. 9 – Apr. 13:
Following Footsteps: Three Generations of Gruppé Painters - Following Footsteps features oil paintings from a celebrated family of artists. Artists have always gathered together in their studios, in cafés or other places to share ideas, discuss projects, help and learn from each other. The give and take of sharing often grows into life-long friendships with artists influencing and encouraging each other. Family members also encourage other members of their family to study and pursue art, but rarely do we see three generations of successful artists within the same family. Charles, Emile and Robert Gruppé are one such example.

Mar. 22 – Apr. 13:
The 42nd Annual Jade N. Riedel Scholarship Competition - In 1971, members of the Naples Art Association initiated a scholarship program designed to encourage young aspiring artists to realize their dreams of becoming professionals in the visual arts. Since then, awards have been given annually by the NAA to Collier County high school students in conjunction with an exhibition of their work. Junior and senior high school students in Collier County, who are interested in furthering their art studies at the college level, eagerly participate in this competition for scholarships that help to defray student tuition costs. 25th Annual Downtown Naples Festival of the Arts - This final major art festival of the season attracts fine art collectors, tourists, and young families looking for fine décor, unique collectibles and one-of-a kind gifts. This prestigious festival runs through the heart of downtown Naples on 5th Avenue South and features over 260 artists from around the country. Camera USA: National Photography Award 2013 - Now in its third year, the Naples Art Association is proud to sponsor a national photography competition. In 2012, the association received submissions from professionals and amateurs from 26 different states. The work included a broad spectrum of subjects and included traditional black and white images, digitally-enhanced work, collages, casual snap shots and more. ARTScool Student Exhibition 2013 - Newly created artwork by children and teens is presented on the first and second levels of The von Liebig Art Center. The 15th annual summer arts program for youth ages 5 to 14 will run from June through mid-August and will feature theme and media-based classes. Selected artwork from the exhibition will travel to Naples City Hall for a second exhibition. The von Liebig Art Center. Free admission.

The exhibition gives artists at all skill levels an opportunity to exhibit and share their artwork with a larger audience.

Selected Work from The Collection - Before the opening of The von Liebig Art Center, the Naples Art Association began an initiative to further its mission by collecting original works of art through gift and donation. The collection of middle to late 20th Century paintings, sculpture, works on paper, photography and mixed media documents the legacy of artists who were influential in establishing Naples as a vital art community. The Collection is focused on American art created after 1950 and features work by artists who have had a connection to Florida. The Naples Art Association now holds 173 works in all media.
