39th Annual Jade N. Riedel Scholarship Fund Competition April 17 – May 2, 2010

In 1971, members of the Naples Art Association initiated a scholarship program designed to encourage young aspiring artists to realize their dreams of becoming professionals in the visual arts. Since then, awards have been given annually by the NAA to Collier County high school students in conjunction with an exhibition of their artwork. The scholarship program was named after Jade N. Riedel to honor her memory and years of tireless service as program chair and chief fundraiser.

Scholarship Awards Juror: John Hushon

John Hushon is president of Artnet AG, a public global art company that maintains the largest art database in the world, publishes art e-magazines, manages the inventory of 3,000 art galleries, and conducts an online art auction. Hushon practiced international corporate law with a large Washington, D.C. law firm until 1995 after graduating from Brown University in 1967 and Harvard Law School in 1970. During that time he helped to create Washington Lawyers for the Arts, curated a large corporate art collection, and founded Artnet. He and his wife Judy moved to Houston and then London as Hushon became CEO of El Paso Energy International until retirement in 2002, when they moved to Naples. During this time he managed the expansion of El Paso into energy infrastructure projects in more than 20 countries in the developing world and became a board member of the Alley Theatre and The Menil Collection. Hushon continues as a management consultant and, after completing graduate studies in theology, teaches in Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance program. John and Judy Hushon collect art (mostly contemporary), Chinese porcelains, and ancient and modern glass.
